#FallWritingFrenzy 2021!

I have been waiting for this #FallWritingFrenzy contest since last year!

I LOVE Autumn, and this writing exercise is such a fun one.  So…

Let’s celebrate #KidLit and the hosts of this contest @KaitlynleannSanchez, @LydiaLukidis, and @AmeerahHolliday.

Make sure to check out all the posts and read all the entries!

So, THE CHALLENGE: Write a fall-themed piece inspired by one of the several photos provided AND keep the word count to 200 words or less! Simple, right? I did it!  200 words!

Let’s just say, this year was fun. I hope you enjoy this year’s entry!

Happy Fall All!!!

Magic to Share

by Laura N. Clement

In summer,

she likes her toes to wiggle,

in grass and mud,

over pebbles submerged and slimy that tickle,

Squoosh and,

Sloosh,

against her bare skin—

warm,

browned,

but prickled.

Then,

without apology,

the season crashes—

and waves of frantic froth and foam,

delight,

then — fade,

leaving her drenched,

beaming,

and joyous.

Now—

with her still smaller handwoven in mine,

we unfold miles before the sun sets,

a bite of evening blushing our cheeks.

Toes tucked in—

warm,

muffled,

snuggled deep in heavy boots,

we devour the musty snap of orange,

and fragile crackle of yellow—

freshly fallen underfoot.

Her whole face — beaming,

bright and blissful,

beneath the fuzzy fold of her hat

is awash in the imagination of—

this season,

where petrichor surrounds,

soft and sweet,

before swelling into rain.

Impulsively—

With a skip,

and a twirl,

she pulls away,

to waltz and wander in the mist,

along the varied loops and lulls

on fences we pass.

Her exploration bends

when discovery finds,

her fingers dancing,

down,

uneven,

red edges,

that crumble,

when touched, until—

soaked,

frozen,

they weave once more into the warmth of mine.

There is magic here in the fading light,

ours to share.
